3. Tooth preparation. Before placing a crown, the tooth must be prepared by removing decayed or damaged portions. This ensures that the crown fits properly over the remaining healthy tooth structure.
4. Crown fabrication. Once the natural tooth has been prepared, our dentist takes another set of impressions to create your custom-made dental crown. This process takes anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks, often depending on the materials used. Instead of conventional impression material, we use a Trios digital scanner to take impressions.
5. Temporary crown placement (if needed). In some patients’ situations, a temporary crown might be placed while the permanent one is being made. This protects your tooth and allows you to continue using it normally until the final crown is ready.
6. Crown placement. When the permanent crown is ready for you, you will return for its placement. Our dentist checks the fit and color match before permanently cementing it in place.
7. Post-placement care instructions. After your new dental crown is placed, our team at Ocala Smiles will provide you with detailed instructions on how to properly care for it. This includes brushing, flossing, and avoiding certain foods that may damage the crown.
